Data Analytics Associate Instructor - Christine's Story

- July 1, 2020

Tech isn't scary - It's exciting and ever changing.

Hi! My name is Christine and I am an Associate Instructor for Data Analytics at With You With Me (WYWM). I have no military background myself. I was recently given the opportunity to complete the WYWM Data Analytics course through a military family member. It has been the best thing I have done for myself in a long time.

It pushed me out of my comfort zone (still does) and allowed me to learn skills I never thought I would ever be able to learn. Not only have I managed to learn those new skills but put them to good use helping more people like myself by teaching them. I enjoyed the Data course so much, I’ve moved onto the SQL Course and have my eyes set firmly on Cyber after that. With a goal of moving into digital forensics I have a long path of learning ahead but I’m really excited about it.

With the help of WYWM I have been able to work on my strengths and weaknesses and am able to cope much better with everyday life. I still have work to do, I still get nervous and worry too much about the ‘small stuff’ but the confidence and support I’ve found within the WYWM community I know I will be able to move past these hurdles. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy but I know I can do it.

You only need one person to have faith in you, to believe that you can do this. Then you can learn to have faith in yourself, and to trust that you have got this. That’s what I’ve found going through these courses. From the instructors, to the student community to now the Associate Instructors. We are all happy to help get you through this transition.

My Background

I have had many jobs. I’ve been a florist, waitress, rider and groom, data entry clerk, receptionist and admin assistant. I am also a fully qualified and insured Nail Technician and Beautician. I am pretty good at graphite sketches and designing tattoos too. I have always enjoyed learning new skills, I just haven’t been able to find something I saw myself doing until retirement. Now I do.

Helping veterans move into the data world is just the icing on the cake. Watching my brother transition into civilian life was an eye opener. Things I didn’t even know about were brought to light. Even now I look back and think "Wow - How did he get through that?". I now have a better understanding of the friction points that veterans face when moving from something that is structured and has been such a big part of their lives to civilian life that is quite often chaotic and disjointed at best. Their years of service do not always get evaluated as necessary skills in the civilian workforce.

After being a stay at home mum for almost a decade, moving back into the work force was tricky and daunting. Having little to no skills on paper I too faced similar difficulties not only finding a job that I enjoyed but that also pushed me to better.  I was barely able to get myself in front of a recruiter.

The aptitude and culture fit tests really helped me assess what I needed to work on and how to improve my skills. My confidence in my abilities have greatly increased and allowed me to move forward in my new career. I have a long way to go but I look forward to the coming challenges.

I encourage you to take the first step and move forward into the unknown with us, it will be uncomfortable, but it will be worth it and it does get easier. Tech isn’t scary, it’s exciting and ever changing. If you would like to know more about what we do, follow the links below.
