WithYouWithMe is working with veterans to assist people with disabilities in remote communities

Sydney, Tuesday, 1 September 2020: Australian military veterans will soon be helping hundreds of Australia’s most vulnerable community members thanks to a program coordinated by WithYouWithMe.

The new program will see Australian military veterans deployed to locations in remote Australia to act as Local Area Coordinators to assist people with disability who are supported by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The veterans will cover some of the most remote parts of Australia, focused on the outback areas of the Northern Territory, such as Alice Springs, Katherine and Nhulunbuy. There are more than 3,400 NDIS participants across the Northern Territory, including more than 1,600 who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

WithYouWithMe, an Australian tech start-up helping veterans find new careers, is working with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and its local area coordination program to help get veterans into these roles. Drawing on their military experience of cooperation and leadership, veterans will be ideally placed to build relationships and provide essential services to those in regional communities with disabilities.

The program will see an initial cohort of seven veterans deployed across the Northern Territory to work with people with disabilities. With the individuals living in some of the most remote communities in Australia, the veterans will be responsible for building relationships with individuals on the program and across the broader community.

WithYouWithMe Chief Customer Success Officer Tom Larter said: “This program is going to provide an avenue for Aussie veterans to continue to serve their country in a new way. Veterans have great skills they’ve built to be successful in these remote communities, and in particular helping those with disabilities access essential services.

“I want to thank the NDIA for their support of the program which enables our veteran community to help those with disabilities in regional Australia and hope to have even more joining the program in the coming months.”

The program is open to any current or ex-serving Australian defence force member who is looking to kick-start a new career in regional Northern Territory. For those veterans interested, you can register your interest at https://rallypoint-ca.withyouwithme.com/ndis-veteran-jobs/.
